Preparing for Childbirth Classes
Childbirth Education/Lamaze Parents-to-be share common fears and concerns regarding pregnancy, labor and delivery, and parenting. The Childbirth Education/Lamaze course demystifies the labor and birthing experience through:

Discussion of pregnancy, labor, and delivery -
Discussion of cesarean birth -
Presentation of breathing and relaxation techniques for maintaining control during labor and delivery -
Discussion of analgesia and anesthesia options for labor and delivery -
A tour of maternity facilities at The Mount Sinai Hospital -
Videos and other audio-visual aids There are two types of Childbirth/Lamaze programs: Standard and Weekend Condensed.
Standard
Weekday Childbirth / Lamaze Classes Weekday classes are two-and one-half hours a week over four consecutive weeks. Mothers-to-be should schedule childbirth classes approximately eight to nine weeks before the baby is due. Classes, such as Preparation for Breastfeeding and Caring For Your Newborn, are included at no additional cost, however, they are scheduled separately from the Lamaze classes. Weekend Lamaze
Weekend Lamaze Classes We offer the same 2-1/2 hour weekday course plan on Saturdays and Sundays. You can participate on three consecutive Saturdays, three consecutive Sundays, or as an intensive weekend package consisting of two 5-hour sessions. Lunch is included for the weekend package. Preparation for Caesarean Birth
A two-hour class designed to meet the educational needs of parents-to-be who are scheduled to have a Cesarean birth. Discussion will include potential implications for operative procedures, anesthesia and post-operative analgesia options, and techniques for facilitating post-operative recovery. - Cost: Call for details

Tot Saver (Infant CPR)
This is a 3-hour class that reviews the basics of life-saving techniques of CPR, assistance with a choking infant or child, and use of Emergency Medical Services (911). - Cost: $75 per person, $135 per couple

General Class Information - The mother-to-be should be accompanied by the individual who will be her support person during labor and delivery.
- Both mother-to-be and support person should attend all classes. Please wear comfortable clothes to class.
- All childbirth classes are taught by Registered Nurses who have been certified as Childbirth Educators and Lactation Consultants.
Payment
Make checks or money orders are payable to: The Mount Sinai Hospital (Parent Education Class), or you may pay by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express). Cancellations
There is a $50 processing fee for all Lamaze class cancellations. A refund of 50% of the class fee will be made, provided the cancellation is made within 48-hours of the first scheduled class. After the 48-hour period, no refunds will be granted. For individual classes, including but not limited to, Refresher Lamaze, Preparation for Breastfeeding, Preparation for Newborn Care, Preparation for Cesarean Birth, and Sibling Preparation, there will be a $25 processing fee. Prices are subject to change without notice.
