Mount Sinai’s Adolescent Health Center (MSAHC) prioritizes the needs of the adolescent first. All staff, services, schedules, programs, and training take an adolescent friendly approach. At this junction in time, the challenge for research is to develop a research program that complements MSAHC without using adolescents as test subjects or acts as a separate non integrated division. Our solution is to use a patient-oriented, naturalistic approach that directly benefits the patients yet is scientifically valid. All research is done on-site and interfaces with clinical care. Adolescents are often used to help design survey and educational content and layout. Studies target the key health needs of our adolescents: Reproductive health, wellness & obesity, trauma & abuse, and substance use.
